The girl who changed her life
When homeless, even newspapers make a good blanket while sleeping anywhere. Homelessness affects many people in different ways. For myself I was homeless when I was 16. I travelled all across Queensland searching for accommodation to no avail and
found myself sleeping in parks or wherever I could find. All of my belongings were in a shopping trolley. Being homeless posed so many issues for me, I was scared about who would find me, where to go or where is my next stop. I had no chance of furthering myself as I couldn’t wash my clothes so I couldn’t be presentable which brought on feelings of helplessness. I had no connections to
friends because of embarrassment and shame. It was a hard struggle to find my ground however now at 20 I have had independent accommodation for 3 ½ years now. There is hope for homeless youths with access to support. I believe that with better knowledge supplied to youths about support will help to eliminate homelessness. Also, through personal experience Youth Refuges are a life saving haven for a lost teen.
